The splendors of the Ancient Maritime Republic are revived in the splendor of the Arsenal of the Republic of Amalfi. The ancient medieval structure, among the few that have survived intact to the present day, consists of one span covered by vaulted ceilings. Made from different types of stone materials, all of which were quarried locally, it was formerly intended for shipbuilding. The Arsenal was originally about twice the size it is today. The ancient shipyard extended all the way to the harbor, so that the boats worked in it could easily reach the sea. To date, this place full of charm and fascination is usable with an area prepared for events and ceremonies and an area set up for museum exhibitions: it currently houses the Museo della Bussola.
