The bell tower, located in the south-west corner of the large churchyard, is the only surviving structure of the ancient church dedicated to S. Maria Bambina, founded in 1202 by members of the Corsaro family in the village of Lone. It was demolished in 1894 due to structural problems. The most serious of these occurred on 24 August 1894, when a deep chasm opened up inside the building. The building had two naves, with an oratory for the congregation alongside it, which was first recorded in 1494, and was dedicated to the Maddalena.
The bell tower, which was destroyed by lightning in 1824 and then rebuilt in an identical manner, square and comprises two floors, with single lancet windows, surmounted by a tambour in which another four single lancet windows and eight small circular openings open, and is covered by an ovoid dome.
