This charming alleyway, called Supportico Rua, holds the remains of a unique 13th-century Arab bathhouse, belonging to a medieval aristocratic domus, of which cross vaults, column rhombs and classical and medieval capitals are still preserved.
The structure – consisting of two rooms currently used as a ceramics shop – is believed to have been the medieval balneum de lo monte owned at the time by the aristocratic Capuano family. Its typical domed, radial groove and cross-vaulted ceilings are very similar to those of the ‘Arab baths’ found at Casa d’Afflitto in Pontone and Casa Sasso and Villa Rufolo in Ravello.
